Loved this, really liked the artwork and the storytelling, took me back to memories of A-Level French studying Flaubert's novel! A sly, smart, funny romp that sends up story-lovers who look at people and see characters. The percentage of Approved Tomatometer Critics who have given this movie a positive review. Not only are the names of the new arrivals Gemma and Charles Bovery, but their behavior also seems to be inspired by Flaubert's heroes. Both of the published books feature a "doomed heroine", much in the style of the 18th- and 19th-century gothic romantic novel, to which they often allude, but with an ironic, modernist slant. What a piece of petit bourgeois mediocrity it is.
